About Us

Where Recovery Begins and Faith Leads the Way

At The Way, we believe that recovery is not just about sobriety—it’s about finding purpose, building community, and reconnecting with God. Through compassionate support, structure, and a Christ-centered approach, we walk alongside men and women as they discover a new way of life—one grounded in hope, healing, and faith.

About Us

The Way was founded by George Massengill, Matt Massengill, and Bob Stubblefield—three men who have walked the road of recovery and dedicated their lives to helping others do the same. With over a century of combined experience in behavioral health and recovery support, they bring a unique blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and lived experience to the work. United by their personal journeys and shared faith, they created The Way as a safe, homelike environment where men can rebuild their lives, restore relationships, and deepen their spiritual connection.

Meet The Team

Matt Massengill has a background in business development, having helped launch and grow successful tree service companies across East Tennessee. A talented photographer and creative spirit, Matt found a new calling after beginning his own recovery journey. His passion for helping others led him to serve as the Director of Recovery Support Services at RCN Treatment Centers. While working in the field, Matt saw a need for high-quality, faith-based recovery housing in Crossville—programs that offer both structure and spiritual connection. Together with his father, he co-founded The Way to meet that need.

George Massengill, BSSW, LADAC, brings over 35 years of experience in the addiction treatment and recovery housing industry. A licensed clinician, visionary leader, and seasoned executive, George has held roles as CEO, Clinical Director, and Vice President for some of the most well-respected behavioral health organizations in the country, including JourneyPure, CRC Health/Acadia, Bradford Health, and many more. Throughout his career, he has pioneered innovative models of care that integrate detox, residential and outpatient treatment, transitional housing, and long-term recovery support.

Bob Stubblefield is a 39-year veteran of the behavioral health field, having dedicated his life and career to providing compassionate, comprehensive care in a wide range of treatment settings. His journey has taken him from serving as a relief halfway house manager to holding the position of Chief of Operations for a multi-location, multi-modality, and multi-level substance abuse treatment organization.

Throughout his career, Bob has played a vital role in bringing substance use and in-home counseling services to small towns and rural areas historically lacking access to care.
